Happy Birthday to Me!

Thank you everyone for the birthday calls, texts and FB messages! It makes me feel very special. Unfortunately for my birthday I didn't get to lay in bed all day to read a book or watch a movie. I spent my day at the office getting prepared of the Fall semester. However, I did get to spend a fun evening in Starkville with Clif and freinds while the children stayed at Poopa and YaYa's house. I don't have any pictures of Clif and I (I have to get better about taking pictures of us!) but I have some cute ones of the children playing that Cathy took.

Multitasking

Apparently we women learn to multitask very early in life. Here is Langley doing a breathing treatment,  looking at a costume magazine and watching TV!

First day of pre-school

Langley is feeling much better and was finally able to start at St. John's his morning.  She was so excited she jumped right out of bed and got dressed! She slept with the outfit in her bed that she had picked out the night before!! When we arrived at SJ I pulled her nap mat out of the front seat and she said "you brought it! That's awesome!" I'm not sure how many three year olds use the word awesome but Langley loves it!

ER visit

Monday evening Langley gave us a scare! She had been coughing earlier in the day but then after picking the kids up she starting breathing heavily. She came up to me after playing with Parker and Bennett and said she couldn't breathe. I took her to our after hours clinic and they sent me across the street to the ER. Fortunately,  we got in quickly and she was given a couple of breathing treatments and is doing much better. The ER doctor said it was just bronchitis and I hope it does turn into more.

Summer Beach Trip

In late July we were able to take a short vacation to Orange Beach with Poopa and YaYa. The children had not been to the beach except for last year on Labor Day when we were in Gulfport for the triple baptisms and it was during a tropical storm! So they were more than excited! As you can see Langley was all tuckered out after the first afternoon on the beach.

All my kids loved the beach and the ocean. They would swim and play for hours at a time without stopping. We also we fortunate not to have any bad sunburns. Langley loved playing in the waves and being "washed up" on shore.

After the first day we knew that we needed to get some boogie boards and Bennett was a natural. He is already talking about getting a wooden board that he saw some big boys surfing on.
We had great weather with rain one afternoon and the threat of rain another. This cloud below looked ominous but just passed on my with only a few droplets of rain.
Parker heard another friend talking about hunting for crabs after the sun went down and she and Bennett were determined to do this. Parker was quite good at capturing some of these tiny little critters. I was amazed at how many people would be on the beach doing this. It was fun to watch from the balcony as well.

As you can see Parker has become a little bit of a poser in pictures these days!
The first full day at the beach we met another family from Starkville who had two children that Parker and Bennett hit it off with immediately. Every day Bennett would head down to the beach and hope that his new friend was already there.
Thanks mom for the great umbrella that keep us cool and covered while taking water and snack breaks.
Langley and daddy taking a break
No sand castles here but they did try and make tunnels
Bennett practicing his surfing....ready for a real board.
Parker and her hermit crab. She couldn't quite grasp the concept of "hermit" and the reason why it wouldn't come out

This was the last night and you could see how tired Bennett had gotten because he was absolutely delirious! I apologize to anyone who was below us in the condo!
The morning before we left we attempted to get a picture of the kids but it just didn't happen. Bennett wouldn't open his eyes and they were all pretty exhausted but the candid shots are fun to look at too!

We had a great first trip to the beach this summer and look forward to many more with family and friends. I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer and is ready for football season!

How was the 1st day of school?

Bennett gives his first day a thumbs up but he will only talk about recess and lunch!

First Day of School

Well we made it through three months together and the time is finally here for all of us to go back to school! Yeah!! Or am I supposed to be shedding tears....either way I can't believe that I have two in school this year. Time flies and they grow up very fast even if you don't want them to!

Parker and Bennett I hope you have a wonderful first day at school!

Lizard Watching

Towards the end of summer the children have grown tired of just swimming and find other interesting things to do. Parker loves to catch lizards and she is pretty good at it too. Below they are all sitting around and watching the lizard Parker caught which they put on my plant.
At the Barnes household there isn't much play with babies or dolls. It is more about animals, any kind of animal. Below is one of the many "setups" of Parker's. It appears to be a town of My Little Ponies and dinosaurs. It can take her an hour to set everything up just right and then she never comes back to play with it or it is time to go somewhere or to bed !
One morning Langley woke up and wanted to be Nemo! We've had this costume for over two years and this is probably the second time someone has had it on!

40th Wedding Anniversary

As many of you know the entire Parker family -- all 19 1/2 of us -- traveled to Centralia for the 4th of July holiday. Mom and dad thought we did this because we knew this might be the last time we are all together again since Shannon & Sarah were moving from Memphis. Little did they know that we had been planning a SURPRISE 40th wedding anniversary party since the year before! Thanks to those in Centralia who helped with the planning and keeping it all a surprise. A huge thanks to all my siblings for pulling it all together! It was a fantastic party! Lauren & Crissie decorated on Saturday and put together a terrific table for the children and I think that they agree!
Lauren and I - Might I add that Lauren created all the table centerpieces and brought all the decorations with her all the way from Gulfport!
Parker had a wonderful time!

If you look really close on the left hand side there is the picture that inspired this one below. Dad looks just as happy 40 years later!
